JAMES SLOAN STURGEON – COCKBURNSPATH STATIONMASTER .........................                     4th March 2008

We have recently discovered our grandfather, James Sloan Sturgeon(b. 1885), had been married before he met our grandmother. He married Mary McKenzie in 1907 and they were together twenty years until her death in 1927.  Trying to find any children from this marriage is proving hard without a name or specific date.  Marys death is registered in the Parish of Cockburnspath and we would love to find a great aunt, great uncle or any relatives from their marriage.  We are heading to Cockburnspath for Xmas 08 from Western Australia and look forward to our first northern hemisphere Xmas for many years.

Thank you Tom

It saddens us that this part of our Sturgeon family history appears to have been hushed up and we may have lost the opportunity to know others who spring from the same roots.  Mary McKenzie Sturgeon died at Cockburnspath 13th May 1927, her death being certified by Dr P J Flood.  I wonder if the rail company keeps records of their employees?  Perhaps if they lived in the stationmasters house, family details are kept too?

Thank you for your very kind assistance.

I havr had no feed back yet on your enquiry. The railway station buildings have been a private residences for some time now as the property was sold off after the station was closed in the 1960`s, the trains pass through with the nearest station being Dunbar, about 8 miles away.
