Salmon Fishing History at Cockburnspath( Family Wull Craw)                                29 December 2009

I have been researching my family tree for about a year and have traced back to my great/great grandfather James Craw my great grandfather William Crow and my grandfather again William Crowe ( Aka; Wull Craw) who was born in Montrose 18/12/1872 all the family were salmon fishers. My grandfather Wull Craw is recorded in the census of 1891 as living at Redheugh Shield, Cocksburnpath occupation given as salmon fisher. In the census of 1901 his address was given as the Vennel Coldinton again listed as a salmon fisher river balliff. the family were still living in Montrose at these times so i am assuming that he was employed in these areas during the summer salmon season possibly by a Berwickshire Company Joseph Johnston and Co who had fishing interests in Montrose. I would be grateful if anyone can help my research . I am very interested to know anything about the salmon fishing history in these areas. if there are photographs available of either of the addresses or the area in general access to these would be appreciated. hope you can help,

best regards Bill CROWE
