Minutes for Meeting of 14th January 2004.

Venue:  Cockburnspath Primary School.
1. PRESENT:
1.1. Mr. John Hay (Chairman), Mr Clifford Bertram (Vice Chairman)
           Mr. David Munro (Secretary), Mrs Fiona Deeming (Minutes Secretary), Angela Brading (Treasurer) Mrs Jane Hood, Mrs Marnie McGregor,  Mrs Jean Virtue, Mr Paul Wheelhouse, Mr. Matt Deeming, Councillor John Elliot (Duns & District North SBC). A Number young, people from the village were also present.

2. APOLOGIES.
2.1. None.
3, ADOPTION OF MINUTES FOR 10th DECEMBER 2003.
3.1. Minutes adopted with the exception of spelling mistakes.

4. POLICE COMMUNITY REPORT/UPDATE, PC's RICHARDSON AND McClauchlan:
      4.1. A quick response to a false alarm at the Dr's surgery was due quick reaction to the alarm by vigilant neighhours', for which the police are grateful,
      4.2. There have been a number of break-ins in the central borders, residents are asked to be aware of possible bogus workmen etc, likely targets being licensed
              premises, schools and other public premises.
      4.3. Clifford asked if it was policy for police attendance if the school alarm activated, Yes, if police resources not already committed, or higher priority call.

 5.  MATTERS ARISING:
      5.1. Road safety:
         5.1.1. Street signs: discussions continue.
      5.1.2. Church Hall corner: road is coned off ready for resurfacing work.

  6. COAST GUARD COTTAGES:
      6.1.   Extension: John (H) reported that he had been contacted by Mrs Rennick, reference an extension to the watch tower cottage, she was concerned that a
               balcony was to be erected on the sea side of the property which will overlook her garden. The house is to be converted to a holiday home and she feels
               she will have no control over whom maybe overlooking her garden. The C.C has not been notified of any Planning app'n. John (H) to contact planning
               dep't, John (E) took note.

7.ANY OTHER BUSINESS:
7.1. Skate board area:
7.1.1. Adam Wight, on behalf of the young people asked about the provision of skate board facilities within the village. John replied that the C.C. had promised the new village hall committee £900 towards the construction of a skate park as part of the new village hall set up. Angela confirmed that a meeting of the new village hall committee was scheduled for 21st Jan. and provision for young people was on the agenda.
7.2. Letter of thanks:
       Marnie had need to contact the council department responsible for street lighting on Christmas Eve as the lamp section of a street light had become detached and was dangerously hanging its cable. A council employee did attend and fixed the problem. David will send a letter of thanks for prompt attendance to the appropriate department and hopefully it will be forwarded on to the employee concerned.

7.3 Viridor: Jane attended the Viridor meeting on behalf of the C.C.The two main points were; the smell around the area of the site and the road safety at the
      Dunbar junction which is also the access point for lorries entering the Site. Viridor noted both points.
7.4. Salt bins: Angela has previously contacted the S.B.C ref' salt bins in Calendar Place with no result, John will contact responsible depot,
7.5. Pease Bridge: Concern was voiced by Clifford over the vegetation growth on the approach to Pease Bridge.
7.6. A1 Roundabout: As yet David has had no response from Amey.
7.7. Power cuts: A discussion took place about the recent large power cut.
7.8. Web Site: Paul feels more community information and local "colour" is required for the Cockburnspath web site all input will be gratefully received.

8. CORRESPONDENCE:
8.1. Computer Bus - leaflet circulated.
8.2. Annual Public Performance report- received.
8.3. Affordable housing: Letter received from Ancrum C.C.
8.4. Leader+: Leaflet and events letter received.
