Proposed Car Parking Charges at Dunbar Station
GNER propose to introduce car parking charges at Dunbar station from 28th September 2002. Passengers with Season tickets will be able to purchase a car park pass for £10 and will have to renew this regularly. However, there are possibly insufficient spaces to guarantee a space for each pass holder. Other spaces will be available at a charge of £2.50 per day, which represents approximately a £65 increase per month or a 65% increase for a standard class season ticket holder, according to Derrick White, Cove Farm Cottages, who represents the Dunbar and Berwick Passenger Group. GNER argue that the station is the only one at which they do not charge for parking. However, the station represents a largely rural catchment and the lack of consultation on this with passengers is unacceptable. A petition will be placed in the village shop for those wishing to record their displeasure at the proposed charge. Derrick White can be contacted on dow@elmep.com
