COMMEMORATION OF EAST COAST FISHING DISASTER AT COVE The scale of the East Coast Fishing Disaster of 1881 is well known, 189 vessels lost at sea, 129 from Eyemouth, and 4 out of the 5 vessels lost at Cove, and 11 out of the 21 Cove fishermen lost, all Grays and Fairbairns. Cove suffered relatively worse than anywhere else. A special service will be held to commemorate the 125th Anniversary, at the harbour, at 11.00am. It will be taken by Rev. Ann Lithgow, Minister of Cockburnspath, Oldhamstocks & Innerwick, with some music commissioned from Dave Francis & Mairi Campbell, two of Scotland’s most creative contemporary musicians basing their work on tradition. Final arrangements are yet to be made, but it is intended that the service will be led from one of the boats, with people participating on the pier. Refreshments will be offered.
