The
New Village Pub!
Cockburnspath
has been without a pub (sadly!) for more than 4 years now. The former Cockburnspath
Inn has been refurbished as a private residence.

However,
with your help and support, you could see No. 4 Hay Terrace turn from this
(left) to something like what you see to the right! This is just a mock-up,
but it gives you an impression of what might be! |

COMING
SOON?

Or
change from this..........to this! |

In
2001, following a public meeting to discuss the project, at which approximately
150 residents attended with only a few residents opposed to the project,
the Community Council funded the initial planning application to convert
No. 4 Hay Terrace, part of the former premises of George Hay and Son, grocers,
to form a public house for the village. This application was approved by
the Berwickshire Area Committee of SBC. The Community Council, in
August 2001, then stepped back to let a group of local residents
drive the project forward and start fundraising, as this is to be a commercial
project, albeit one which it is hoped is managed by and for the benefit
of local investors. For more information on the Community Council position,
The
project is now being driven forward, as it was hoped, by a new company
Cockburnspath Enterprises Ltd. The company are seeking potential
investors within the community and it is hoped that a share issue will
follow shortly. For more information on how your help can turn an
idea into reality, contact Derek Swenson on Co'path 674 or e-mail Derek
at derekswenson@aol.com who can provide details of the business plan and
how shares will be issued and voting rights.
We
believe that this project is important to provide a social hub (allied
to the Village Hall) for the local community, as well as a venue for hot
and cold snacks. this will not only benefit locals but also help
to generate some income from tourists (walkers and day-trippers) to the
area, who currently find little on offer locally at present. In addition,
it is hoped that 2 or 3 full-time jobs will be created, with additional
part-time work opportunities in the Summer peak season. |
